Last updated: 7 October 2026

Who we are

J Harper Electrical Limited is responsible for the personal information we use to respond to enquiries and provide our electrical, solar and battery services. This notice covers our website, enquiries, appointment requests and customer job records.

For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, email office@jharperelectrical.co.uk, call 01900 829257, or write to J Harper Electrical Limited, Unit 7J, Lakeland Business Park, Lamplugh Road, Cockermouth, Cumbria, CA13 0QT.

Information you give us

Our enquiry form asks for your name, email address, telephone number, message, installation postcode and the service required. Enquiries also reach us through our booking page and business emails. You may choose to contact us by telephone, WhatsApp or Facebook.

For a quotation, survey or job, the information needed may include your installation address, property and equipment details, electricity use, photographs you provide, appointment details and correspondence. Completed-job records may include quotations, work and testing records, certificates, invoices, warranty information and aftercare correspondence.

Please provide only information relevant to your enquiry. You can browse without submitting a form. If we do not have the contact or property information needed for the requested work, we may be unable to respond, prepare a quotation or arrange the service.

Why we use information

We use your information to respond to enquiries, arrange appointments, assess work, prepare quotations, deliver agreed services and provide aftercare. When you ask us to take steps towards a contract with you, or we perform that contract, this is our lawful basis for the relevant processing.

For general enquiries, business contacts, administration, security and handling complaints or disputes, we rely on our legitimate interests in running the business and communicating about our services, balanced against your privacy rights. We also retain information where required to comply with legal obligations, including accounting and tax requirements.

Messages and online promotion

We do not send promotional emails or texts. Our direct communications concern enquiries, quotations, bookings, jobs and related customer service.

We use Google and Meta/Facebook for our business's online presence and promotion. When you interact with our listing, page or content on their services, those providers process information under their own privacy notices. This can include information about your account, device and interactions, and statistics made available to business account holders.

See Google's privacy notice, Meta's privacy notice and WhatsApp's privacy notice. Contacting us through these services is your choice; you can use our business email or telephone instead.

Website hosting and cookies

The website is provided through IONOS MyWebsite and its website platform providers. Hosting services process technical visit information, such as IP addresses, requested pages, browser/device information and access times, to deliver the website, maintain security and provide platform statistics.

Cookies are small files stored on your device. Browser settings let you view, delete or block them; blocking cookies can affect functions on websites you visit. Simply visiting this website or reading this policy does not itself give consent to optional tracking or marketing.

Links to booking, Facebook and WhatsApp open external services. Their own cookies, settings and privacy notices apply when you use those services.

Where enquiries are handled and who receives them

We handle enquiries through our business email accounts and booking service. Website form processing involves IONOS and its platform providers; business email providers process communications for us.

Our appointment link opens vcita. Information entered there is processed to support your booking request. Read vcita's privacy notice.

For an agreed job, relevant information may need to be provided to the people carrying out the work and to service, equipment, warranty or certification providers where their involvement is necessary. Information may also need to be disclosed to professional advisers or authorities to meet legal duties or deal with a claim. The information shared should be limited to what is needed for that purpose.

Processing outside the UK

External providers may process information outside the UK. For example, vcita states that it stores information in the United States and uses an Israeli subsidiary. Its published data-processing addendum includes UK GDPR provisions and international-transfer terms.

Transfers requiring protection under UK data protection law must be covered by an applicable adequacy arrangement or appropriate safeguards, such as approved contractual terms and the UK Addendum where applicable. Contact office@jharperelectrical.co.uk for information about the arrangements relevant to your records or how to obtain details of the safeguards.

How long we keep records

Unsuccessful enquiries: we keep these for a maximum of six weeks after the enquiry or quotation expires. This applies to the enquiry records held in our booking service and business emails.

Completed jobs: we keep records while they are needed for accounting, certification, warranties, aftercare and dealing with disputes. We review them and delete personal information when it is no longer needed, subject to any applicable legal requirement to retain it. The necessary period depends on the type of record, relevant requirements, warranty duration and any unresolved issue.

Security

The website uses HTTPS to protect information in transit. We are responsible for taking appropriate steps to protect customer information and manage access to our business records. Please do not send passwords, payment-card details or unrelated sensitive information through the general enquiry form or social messages. Contact us if you think information has been sent to the wrong recipient or accessed without authorisation.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you can ask to access your personal information, correct it, delete it, restrict its use or receive a portable copy of information you supplied. Legal exceptions can apply, including where records must be retained to meet an obligation.

Your right to object: you can object to processing based on legitimate interests. You have an absolute right to object to direct marketing.

Where processing relies on your consent, you can withdraw that consent without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing. To make a request, email office@jharperelectrical.co.uk or use the contact details above. We may need to verify your identity before disclosing personal records.

Complaints and changes

You can raise privacy concerns with us. You also have the right to complain directly to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113.

We will update this notice when our services or handling of information changes and show the updated date on this page.
